When I first purchased my 5700 instrument along with case and vane kit, I had found Extreme Meters via Amazon. When I placed the order I had meant the 5700 Elite but had ordered the standard by mistake. After I received this meter. I called Mike at Extreme Meters and explained my error. He quickly and kindly helped me return the standard and allowed this towards the Elite with LiNK.
Here is a copy of the review that I left at Amazon. As I take my shooting out further and further, both at the range and in the field, the weather conditions make more of an influence on the shot to target. The Kestrel 5700 Elite with LiNK and ballistics is the state of the art solution. I added the case and tripod for a weather station that travels with me. I’ve found the instrument readings to be right on. As is the ballistics calculator, or you can even pair to the best of the most popular ones. Ballistics AE, StrelokPro, Hornady 4DOF I’ve verified. I would love to see Kestrel and ATN give us the ability to pair their instruments. Wow, a shooting system from the future. I currently use a single meter at the muzzle. But plan on adding a second for at the target for those longer shots at the range.

My expeditions take me to Central America and the Amazon River Basin Brazil. These areas are extremely hot/humid, especially the Amazon River which runs along the Equator. I find it important to track the weather as I generally hike 10 miles daily and need to be aware how my body reacts to make sure I can get back to base camp.
Kestrel weather stations were referred to me by a friend. ExtremeMeters came up on a google search. I studied their products then called for help. Customer service was very helpful. He listened to my needs and gave me two the 3500 or the 5000. I decided to go w the Kestrel 5000. I use it all the time out here in the Mojave Desert. The other day it was 98 degrees w 17% humidity. Talk about bone dry.
I was most delighted to receive my Kestrel promptly. That says a lot about the company. Add to the mix no tax since I live in a different State, and free shipping closed the deal. I love to do business w companies that do what they say they will do - those companies that look out for you. ExtremeMeters highly recommended. Paul - KingCobra

I upgraded to Bluetooth model - Works via Bluetooth so I am revising my review... (But still issues via cable)
I am upgrading my review to four stars, as I am now at least able to communicate with my laptop. I worked with the manufacturer's support to troubleshoot the issues I was having with the non-bluetooth model. Support sent a new cable - same problem. Sent them my 5000, and returned with the spare cable they sent me to try. They found no problem with my unit. We checked my HID driver versions, they were ok.

My laptop itself is fine, the USB ports all work as expected with all kinds of other peripherals. Short of sending them my laptop, I felt we'd hit a dead end. So I offered to pay the difference to be upgraded to the bluetooth model. It arrived today, along with the dongle.

In Bluetooth mode, the new unit sync'd up just fine, with both my Android smartphone. The firmware update, though slow via bluetooth, completed without error. The new unit was also able to talk to my laptop (via bluetooth and the dongle). However, since I still had my original cable, I figured I'd try it. No joy. Like my original (non bluetooth) 5000, this new one likewise is not seen via cable.

I love the device, and I have high hopes and expect I'll enjoy using it for quite a long time. However, for me it seems, the cabled configuration is not the way to go. I appreciate everyone's efforts trying to resolve the issues, but short of sending you my laptop, I can only provide further details of it's configuration to consider, if you think it would help.

What happened to the 4000 series meters? I don\'t see them on your website. I\'m looking for the 08240 Orange.

Extreme Meters LLC.

Actually the 4xxx series meters have been discontinued and are no longer being manufactured. The 4xxx series meters have been replaced with the 5xxx series meters. The Kestrel 5000 would be the replacement for the 4000.

Why is my Kestrel 5000 station pressure reading so different from the actual absolute pressure? My current altitude is 4,300 ft. and absolute pressure for that altitude is: 24.8122 in Hg. When I use my Kestrel 5000, with station pressure my reading is 25.7343 in hg

Extreme Meters LLC.

You will need to set up your reference altitude or your reference pressure. Go to our reference page and click on the Kestrel 5000 Environmental Meter Quick Start Guide to download it. Scroll down to page 12 of the manual. There it will show you how to accomplish this. If you are only interested in station pressure, just adjust your reference altitude to 0. That will be the actual pressure, not barometric pressure which is pressure adjusted from sea level.
